Being an LA CAN Member
Organizationally we define membership as a base of community residents that have come together to amass the power necessary to bring about social, civil and economic change in the name of organization. Recognizing the many challenges faced by our residents, just trying to secure the basic necessities of life, we developed a membership structure that was inclusive and recognized the different amounts of time that residents have to devote to the organization. The three levels of membership are: 1) Supporter, those who attend meetings and events at least bi-monthly and have access to resources of the organization; 2) Active Supporter, those who attend meetings and events at least bi-weekly, are active on committees, and are encouraged to participate in leadership development trainings and other benefits from the organization; 3) Institutional (Core) Members, those who serve on the Advisory Board or other forms of institutional decision-making, participate in all leadership development activities, and form the pool from with all open staff and intern positions are filled. Los Angeles Community Action Network’s approximately 30 institutional members serve as the driving force to ensure policy goals and leadership development goals are met.
